Alec by L.A. Casey
(Slater Brothers #2)
Publication date: August 17th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Synopsis:
Keela Daley is the black sheep of her family. She has always come second to her younger cousin Micah. Even in the eyes of her mother, Micah shone bright, and Keela faded to black. Now, in adulthood, Micah is a bride-to-be and the spotlight is solely on her. Keela is a low priority…or so she thinks.
Alec Slater is a bachelor, never one to bed the same woman, or man, twice. He is a free agent who does what he pleases and answers to no one; that is until a fiery Irish redhead with a temper to match her hair colour knocks him on his arse. Literally.
She hates to admit it, but Keela needs a favour from the cocky Slater brother, a huge favour. She needs him to not only escort her to Micah’s wedding, but to also pose as her boyfriend. Alec agrees to help Keela, but has certain conditions for her to abide by. He wants her body and plans to have it before anyone can say I do.
What he doesn’t plan on is losing his heart as well as the possibility of losing his family when someone from his past threatens his future.
Alec owns Keela, and what Alec owns, Alec keeps.

A ROCK CHICK FAIRY REVIEW
― Joseph Grenny
This is perfectly imperfect. I had a heartfelt journey with this book. I've been waiting for this since I finished Dominic.. been pimping it out for so long too... and now that his story is told... It feels surreal.
The plot is way lighter than Dominic's, but it's still as interesting. The ending will make you jump out of your seat because it's just... so unexpected.
Anyway, onto the characters!
ALEC. I love him. I love everything about him, I love how he takes everything in a stride. I love how so unlike-Dominic he is, not that I don't like Dominic, it's just that I would hate it if they were just plain similar.. and um... dare I say I like him more than Dominic because he's not as hot-tempered? I love how he has that NEVER ENDING HUMOR and I love that he's unaffected by things. I love how he is able to pacify Keela with just a few humorous words. I love that he stands for what he truly is and he's okay with what everyone else would think. I love how patient he is with Keela and I love that he doesn't pretend. I love his imperfect past as well as his striving-to-be-perfect-present-and-future. I love so many things about him that I could forgive just about everything he does wrong. I don't care what bad things other people say about Alec. I love him. I just love him.
Negative comments about him are not welcome and would be deleted. Thanks.
I love Keela too. She's no pushover. She's so like Bronagh in that aspect, only milder because she doesn't have anger issues. I also love her because she's so much like many women in the world. I confess to you all that I am almost always in the verge of crying when someone shouts directly at me. It's either I cry, or I go hysterical. Keela is like that. She somehow emotional. I don't like that she cries a lot.. I just like it that she does. Makes her more human. Lastly, I love, love, more than love that she passes no judgement. She accepted Alec as what he is and given the gravity of their situation in the end, she held on and chose to forgive. I think it's a damn good measure of character when a person forgives.
Oh and I like her because she's a dog lady. hahahha! ;)
So there... This book made me happy, sad, laugh out loud, tear up, angry and then happy again and then frustrated and then happy again. haha! A real, mean roller coaster! You would appreciate Alec's humor all throughout and you would definitely root for the Slater brothers. They are hilarious! :) I look forward to all of the next things that this author has to offer.. I love her characters to Neptune and back.
All in all.. come give this a try if you like romance with full on humor and some thrill-action. And when you do try to read this... Please, please finish it. The end part will make a whole lot of difference.
5 FAIRY WINGS!!!
A VERY AWESOME CHARACTER INTERVIEW WITH THE LOVELY KEELA AND THE MOST HANDSOME (ahem!) ALEC!!!
It's so nice to have this
lovely couple here in the fairy court today. We have interviewed Alec’s brother, Dominic and his girl, Bronagh before (view it here ). Now it’s their turn. Everyone, let’s welcome ALEC
AND KEELA!!!
Fairy interviewer: How's
life treating you both?
Keela: Brilliantly! We’re happier than
ever, thank you.
Alec: It’s actually pretty awesome, I
thought the single life was the shit, but having a ball and chain is pretty
cool too.
Haha! I'm glad you are both doing great and um, that Alec likes having a ball and chain. ^_^
We all know that you two have been through a lot. I hope that it's okay to rehash some things. We also hope that you can enlighten us about many things.
Ladies first…
We all know that you two have been through a lot. I hope that it's okay to rehash some things. We also hope that you can enlighten us about many things.
Ladies first…
Fairy interviewer: Keela, what you hated Alec at first and then just plain loved
him. Why did you hate him and what made you stop doing so?
Keela: I hated his cocky attitude and
how he treated me like I was just a pair of long legs. He is still a cocky shite, and he still loves
my legs, but he treats me as a human being now.
What made me stop hating him was his
ability to use his words to put me at ease. I was very nervous around men after
what Jason did to me and Alec had a way of making me forget.
Fairy interviewer: What attracted you most to Alec?
Keela:
His looks. Shite, than makes me sound so shallow. I mean at first his looks are what attracted me to him most, but once I got
a peek at the Alec on the inside, it was his personality that sealed us.
Fairy interviewer: What is Alec’s best life advice for you?
Keela:
To chase my dreams instead of sitting around and waiting for them to happen.
Fairy interviewer: We personally love that!!!
Fairy interviewer: Keela, that scene near the end of the book with your mom, does
that still stand? What will make you forgive her?
Keela:
Right now? Nothing. We both said things that can’t be taken back. That woman is
very difficult to be around and as of right now, I don’t ever seeing us making
up.
Fairy interviewer: What is your advice to the next Slater girl? :)
Keela:
Good luck and may God be with because you’re in for one hell of a ride.
SPOILER QUESTION: HIGHLIGHT AT YOUR OWN RISK. :)
Fairy interviewer: Keela, what made you say yes to Alec's marriage proposal at such
an early stage of the relationship? (not that we are complaining because oh
man, #swoon *smirks* )
Keela:
We love each other and want to be together forever. Realistically I know it was
too fast, way to bloody fast, to accept a marriage proposal, but I can’t say
anything other than it felt right. We feel right.
/end of spoiler
Thanks for answering
those questions, Keela. ^_^
Now we move on to Alec.
Fairy interviewer: Alec, what's that one thing that made you decide to pursue Keela
for real?
Alec: I knew pretty much straight away
she was different; she openly rejected me and verbally said I disgusted her
when we met. That intrigued me because it’s never happened to me before. Never.
I knew she liked me; I caught the
glances and absentminded lip biting when she thought I wasn’t looking. She
liked my body, but she didn’t want to. She hated my attitude… hard. Originally
I wanted to prove to my brother that Keela was like everyone else and that she
would just be another conquest to add to my ever growing list, but she turned
out to be anything else. She is the real deal. She is it for me.
Fairy interviewer: Awwwww... *the feels*
Fairy interviewer: How much did telling Keela what you did in the past for a living
scare you? If it didn't come out the way it did, were you really going to tell
her still? When?
Alec: It scared the crap out of me. I
was terrified she would up and walk out of my life once she learned about my
past. I wasn’t expecting her to hold no judgment, but no judgment is exactly
what happened.
I would have told her about my past,
but I would have held out for as long as I could. My past isn't something you
spring upon someone you’re trying to form a relationship with.
Fairy interviewer: *nods*
Fairy interviewer: Are you willing to totally give up the other side to be with
Keela?
A follow up question to
this which a guest at the fairy court insisted to ask: How do you control your
urges for the other side now that you are with Keela?
Alec: The only urge I have is for
Keela and Keela alone. If I see an attractive male or female they are just that
in my eyes… attractive. Keela is all I want, and I have her. I am a very happy
man.
Fairy interviewer: Good to know! Really, really good to know! ^_^
Fairy interviewer: If you hadn’t met Keela, what do you think you’ll be doing now?
Alec: Floating from bed to bed with a
satisfied body, cold heart and restless mind.
Fairy interviewer: What are the things that you have learned from Keela so far?
Alec: That love is real. The feelings
I have for her cannot be put into words. There are no words in my vocabulary
that can express how much she means to me. Hmmm… what else have I learned… oh, I’ve
also learned how to iron clothes… Keela made stupid task a requirement to date
her.
Fairy interviewer: Haha! The fairies think she's a genius for turning that into a requirement. ;p
SPOILER QUESTION: HIGHLIGHT AT YOUR OWN RISK. :)
Fairy interviewer: What made you pop the
question straight away? ;)
Alec: I asked her to marry me because
I know what if felt like to have her and lose her. Back in the Bahamas she was
mine one minute, then gone the next. When I came home to Ireland I spent days
more than just simply missing her. I felt empty without her. We only knew each
other a week by that time, but she made an impression on me that I could never
be rid of. My question is why wait? I love her and she loves me. That is all
that matters.
/end of spoiler
Fairy interviewer: Oh, and about your
family... Alec, what is your ultimate wish for you and your brothers?
Alec: For us to remain free. For too
many years we were puppets for an evil being. I don’t want to be under anyone’s
thumb ever again.
Fairy interviewer: Now the next questions
are for the both of you: SPOILERS AHEAD, READERS ARE ADVISED NOT TO HIGHLIGHT THIS
IF THEY HAVEN'T READ ALEC'S BOOK YET.
Fairy interviewer: What kind of wedding do
both you like?
Keela:
I want simple were as Alec wants it to be over the top. Alec enjoys a good
party and our wedding will be no exception it seems.
Fairy interviewer: WHEN IS THE WEDDING?
Alec:
We’re undecided. We’re in the process of looking for a house together so I
think we will focus on that and remain engaged just a little longer.
Fairy interviewer: ARE WE INVITED? ;p
Keela:
Of course, you’re all coming to my hen night, right?
Fairy interviewer: YES! YES! AND A MILLION YES'es
Fairy interviewer: Are we going to see baby
Slaters soon? ;) -- Oh my, the
possibilities are endless
Alec: We aren’t trying,
but if it happens it happens. If you want a baby Slater you should look to
Dominic and Bronagh, I know they humping like rabbits in order to get knocked
up.
Keela:
What Alec means is you never know what the future has in store… you may get
your wish sooner than you think.
/end of spoiler

Thanks for the giveaway! The book sounds great :D
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I love how character driven this sounds and roller coaster rides like these always make for the most memorable reads! And I like how distinct Alec sounds compared to Dominic that really shows a talent for character building. Fun fact - my lil one is called Alek, and the "Trouble maker" would be a perfect description for him as well! Lol! >.<
