March Anticipated Book Releases - YA Edition by Haul Fairy

Author: Lauren Oliver
Title: Panic
Release Date: March 4, 2014

Blurb
Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.

Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.

Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.

For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

Why it is on my list?
The blurb is intriguing. I have questions already about this. What kind of game they are playing? Is it like Battle Royale? Or is this like psychological thriller?

Title: Let the Storm Break
Release Date: March 4, 2014

Blurb
Vane Weston is haunted. By the searing pull of his bond to Audra. By the lies he’s told to cover for her disappearance. By the treacherous winds that slip into his mind, trying to trap him in his worst nightmares. And as his enemies grow stronger, Vane doesn’t know how much longer he can last on his own.

But Audra’s still running. From her past. From the Gales. Even from Vane, who she doesn’t believe she deserves. And the farther she flees, the more danger she finds. She possesses the secret power her enemy craves, and protecting it might be more than she can handle—especially when she discovers Raiden’s newest weapon.

With the Gale Force weakened by recent attacks, and the power of four collapsing, Vane and Audra are forced to make a choice: keep trusting the failing winds, or turn to the people who’ve betrayed them before. But even if they survive the storms sent to destroy them, will they have anything left to hold on to?

Why it is on my list?
I already have the Let the Sky Fall book and I like to do a reading marathon of it. The plot is unique for a paranormal novel. Mostly there are vampires or werewolves or angels & demons, while this one is about elementals, isn’t that interesting? It really piqued my interest. I think this is a smart move making a non-cliché character in a YA paranormal setting.

Author: Marie Rutkoski
Title: The Winner's Curse (The Winner's Trilogy #1)
Release Date: March 4, 2014

Blurb
Winning what you want may cost you everything you love

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

Why it is on my list?
  • It’s a high fantasy – 1 point there;
  • with a mix of dystopian – 2 points there
  • It already has 4.35 ratings as per 02/28/2014 – 1 point there
  • Another point for the cover, it's gorgeous! Admit it; sometimes we love a good book cover.

Title: Half Bad (Half Life Trilogy #1)
Release Date: March 4, 2014

Blurb
In modern-day England, witches live alongside humans: White witches, who are good; Black witches, who are evil; and fifteen-year-old Nathan, who is both. Nathan’s father is the world’s most powerful and cruel Black witch, and his mother is dead. He is hunted from all sides. Trapped in a cage, beaten and handcuffed, Nathan must escape before his sixteenth birthday, at which point he will receive three gifts from his father and come into his own as a witch—or else he will die. But how can Nathan find his father when his every action is tracked, when there is no one safe to trust—not even family, not even the girl he loves?

Why it is on my list?
I haven’t read a witch book ever or as I remember, except for Harry Potter. And this sounds amazing! Half white half black witch, which is more prominent.

Author: Dan Wells
Title: Ruins (Partials Sequence #3)
Release Date: March 11th 2014

Blurb
Kira, Samm, and Marcus fight to prevent a final war between Partials and humans in the gripping final installment in the Partials Sequence, a series that combines the thrilling action of The Hunger Games with the provocative themes of Blade Runner and The Stand.

There is no avoiding it—the war to decide the fate of both humans and Partials is at hand. Both sides hold in their possession a weapon that could destroy the other, and Kira Walker has precious little time to prevent that from happening. She has one chance to save both species and the world with them, but it will only come at great personal cost.

Why it is on my list?
This my most anticipated book in March! I read the book 1 and 2 in this series -- Partials and Fragments, they are a bit long but it is good for a fan of this genre. I need to know what will happen to Kira. I hope it's good and not a disappointment.

Author: Kate Evangelista
Title: Til Death (Fractured Souls #1)
Release Date: March 4, 2014

Blurb
Sixteen-year old Selena Fallon is a dreamer. Not a day-dreamer, but an I-see-the-future kind of dreamer. Normally this is not a problem as she has gotten pretty good at keeping her weird card hidden from everyone in her small town. Except from her best friend Kyle and her grandparents, of course. But when Selena dreams of her own rather bloody death, things get a little too freaky even for her.

Enter Dillan Sloan. Selena has seen the new guy in a different dream, and he is even more droolworthy in person. Beyond the piercing blue eyes and tousled dark hair, there is something else that draws her to him. Something…electric. Unfortunately, Dillan makes it more than clear that he does not feel the same. They just met, so why would he act like he hates her?

When Dillan and Selena are forced together one weekend to work on a school project, Selena prepares to be ignored as usual. But when she stumbles across a few undead in the backyard, Dillan comes to her rescue and reveals a whole lot more. Not only is he part of a society that hunts otherworldly creatures…she is too. And she is being targeted by a force bigger and darker than anything she ever imagined. Despite her death dream, Selena is not going to give up easy, especially when she discovers that Dillan might not actually hate her after all.

Why it is on my list?
I’m a bit biased here. Kate Evangelista is a Filipino; we know that we don’t have much international Filipino authors for YA, so I have to love my own. I haven’t read anything written by her, but soon, I will because... you'll know on my next book haul post (wink). Also, her other paranormal series have a different creatures in it, like reapers and vampires. I will have this book signed by Kate in her upcoming book signing event.

Have a great weekend fairies!
