✴ REMINISCING SUNDAY: BROOKE (AN UNDER THE NEVER SKY NOVELLA) by VERONICA ROSSI: POPPY FAIRY BOOK REVIEW ✴

Title: Brooke
Author: Veronica Rossi
Series: Under the Never Sky #2.5
Release Date: Available now
Published by: HarperCollins
Format: Ebook

Summary
Set just before the events of Into the Still Blue, the conclusion to Veronica Rossi's Under the Never Sky trilogy, this breathtaking novella is a satisfying stand-alone for new readers as well as an exciting glimpse at favorite characters from the trilogy. Pulsing with romance and danger, Brooke will leave readers desperate for the conclusion to this epic and unforgettable saga.

The only fight she can't win is the one for Perry's heart. Following the stunning climax in Through the Ever Night, the Tides have been forced to seek shelter from the Aether storms in a dismal, secluded cave. But Brooke's memories of the cave go back much further, to when she and Perry used to come here together. That was before Perry fell in love with Aria and before Vale's dealings with the Dwellers altered the course of the Tides forever.

Now, with her sister back from a haunting year in captivity and Aria lying unconscious in the sick bay, Brooke struggles to put the pieces of her life back together. Without Perry, who is she? And what is her role in this frightening new world? As these questions swirl about her, an old threat to the Tides resurfaces, and Brooke is forced to put the lives of her people before her own. But in taking this step outside of herself, Brooke may finally discover what she truly wants.

A POPPY FAIRY BOOK REVIEW

Brooke takes place after Through the Ever Night but before Into the Still Blue. We all know that before Perry and Aria, there was Perry and Brooke, and this novella focuses on Brooke’s feelings as she attempts to get over Perry.

Brooke is one of the characters whose head I had been dying to get inside of ever since Through the Ever Night. She is one of those characters who even though doesn’t get enough spotlight is still effortlessly likable. Granted, almost all the characters in Under the Never Sky series, including the secondary characters, are all easy to like. Brooke has her own type of fire that burns even brighter than Aria’s that I really like. The things we know about her in the previous books are mostly from Roar and Perry’s stories, but those stories always convey the same thing about Brooke: loyal, sexy and feisty. In Brooke, we get to see more of her sexiness and feistiness, as well as her loyalty to Roar, Perry and Liv.

I am a solid Perry/Aria shipper but I truly sympathized with Brooke here. She feels as if Aria stole everything from her. It had always been Brooke, Perry, Roar and Liv. But with Liv gone, Aria and Roar’s friendship, and Aria and Perry’s relationship, Brooke feels left out.

In the first half of the novella, we see Brooke still fuming over the fact that Aria has already replaced her in Perry’s heart. She is extremely bitter and her jealousy toward Aria is palpable. I swear I wouldn’t be surprised if Brooke murdered her. She even whispers hateful words to Aria while Aria’s asleep! That is how big her dislike of Aria is. But that aside, Brooke is also an extremely good person and she sets all those negative emotions aside to take care of Aria’s deadly wound. No matter how much she hates Aria, Brooke still doesn’t want her to die because she wants Perry to be happy. Brooke is also making a lot of efforts in trying to move on from Perry. She’s trying her best to forget him but it’s hard because she misses him so badly and she’s trying find him in everything and everyone, albeit unconsciously.

The second part is where the story kinda made a sudden turn for me and I’m not sure if I liked the succeeding events. I don’t approve of what Brooke did to Hyde and Hayden (the one with Straggler was really cute) even though it was understandable. I honestly think that rebound is okay so long as the other person is aware of it and not expecting for anything in return. The brothers are really good and fun people and they seem to understand what Brooke is going through however, it still doesn’t make Brooke’s actions okay.

All in all, Brooke is a satisfying novella perfect for fans of the series before reading Into the Still Blue.
