Hi y’all! Rock Chick Fairy here! Christmas is just around the corner. This is my personal favorite annual event. I try to do something different for my friends and family each year. This year though, I think I have outdone myself because for one, I became part of an awesome blog, second this is very special because Santa was so early. I guess he really does love me because he sent me this amazing woman who never fails to make me smile with her books. I got to know her more through her books and I was lucky enough to get to have an interview with her!
Ladies and gents, I give you Kristen Ashley. :)
❄WELCOME to the fairy court,
Kit! ❄
KA: Ooo, fairy
court. I like it! I’m wearing a droopy crown of flowers (peonies and roses) and
glittery, gossamer fairy wings in hot pink, petal and silver and, of course, a
pair of strappy, high-heeled sandals (and a pretty dress, but with the crown,
wings and sandals, who cares about the dress?)
Wow! Oohlala! Yes, who care about the dress indeed?
Read on! ^_^
I have read WITH EVERYTHING I
AM countless times. I love Sonia and Callum's story. Sonia LOVES Christmas so
much! I just love the value of Christmas to her. I love Lauren from SWEET
DREAMS too and she also loves Christmas that she was eventually called
"The Christmas Beast" by Tate, the poor hot guy... He just doesn't
understand! I guess many books of yours have Christmas written all over them,
so we would very much appreciate it if you shared details of your own Christmas
with us, Kit! ^_^
Rock Chick Fairy: What is your favorite
Christmas memory?
It’s hard to whittle it down to one. We grew up with not very
much but my mother saved all year in order to give us a fantastic Christmas
(she made every holiday and birthday special but Christmas was the big one).
I also grew up in a big house with several generations of family
so we lived with my aunt too and she was a Christmas freak.
Auntie Bec and Mom adored going all out for Christmas, we had a
very close family and we had seven people living in our house (with lots of
family close and far who would come to visit) so every year there were fabulous
memories. From my grandmother buying every single one of us (boy and girl) the
same thing (usually a shirt – yes, unisex!). Then there was me running through
a spritz of perfume I was excited to get and getting it in my face which meant
I’d temporarily blinded myself. And there’s the time my AB bought my brother a
coat he wanted to have that I desperately wanted to give to him (but couldn’t
afford it) – meaning she gave us both a big, happy surprise. And then there was
making green-tinted popcorn balls from scratch with my grandfather (popcorn
ball KING!).
But even now, Christmas remains special. A couple of years ago,
my brother-in-law (who’s a pilot) had to fly one Christmas so we did the whole
Christmas gig on Christmas Eve (never has this been done before!).
From the exchange of presents to the full-on Christmas dinner, it all happened
on Christmas Eve. It…was…a…blast and I ended up after midnight,
tipsy, in pajamas, riding down the street on my new bike my family gave me.
Awesome!
Christmas is just Christmas, every year it’s a new favorite
memory.
Rock Chick Fairy: If you could be with anyone
during Christmas this year (living or deceased) aside from your family and
friends, who would you choose to be with and why?
Um…not sure if you mean aside from living family and friends and
since I’m not sure, I’ll pick my AB. My mom was the awesomest and she loved
Christmas but AB broke her back making it super-special. She listened ONLY to
Christmas music from the day after Thanksgiving to the day after Christmas. If
memory serves, she even decorated the inside of her car. She died young, at age
45, and her loss left devastation in its wake that we have not nor ever will
overcome (yes, sitting here typing and crying).
So I’d have her with us on Christmas. She’d love to see how the
girls (my nieces) grew up. She’d love to see how my writing took off (she and
my Uncle Will bought me my first computer so I could chase my dream). She’d
just love being with us. And I’d love that.
Rock Chick Fairy: If you could be Santa to your
Rock Chicks this Christmas, what would be your gift to us (ahem, yes, I'm
including myself haha!) and why?
I would magically make a Daisy and Marcus story appear. Lots of
folks ask for it and I just haven’t had time to write it. So I’d snap my
fingers and there it would be, full of laughter and tears, just like Daisy
likes it.
Rock Chick Fairy: What gift do YOU want to
receive this year?
I want a deep fat fryer so I can fry my tater tots because
American baked tater tots aren’t as good as English baked tater tots and I have
to drive all the way to Sonic when I want some tots. This is not always easy
when I’ve been writing all day and my hair’s a mess (I know…I’m in a car at
Sonic, but the last time I went to Sonic, this hot, built guy in a tank top
with GREAT shoulders walked up to the restaurant then when he walked back, he
looked in my car and smiled at me and I know this was because I had good hair).
Or I want a pizza stone because I cook my homemade pizza on a
non-stick cookie sheet and I have to slide it off onto my cutting board to cut
it and I’m a klutz. A slip of the hand and there’s pizza carnage. That’s no
good but with me it’s always a possibility.
Or I saw the Pioneer Woman making paninis and I thought, “OMG! I
need a panini maker!”
But these all would likely end up used once then go into kitchen
storage and I’d be back at Sonic or eating non-panini’ed sandwiches so really
the best thing I could get is everyone liking what I got them!
Rock Chick Fairy: What's your message to everyone this holiday season? (to fans, future fans and
those who are just passing by) ^_^
Remember, this is the season to be cheerful and give cheer. And
giving it is not about presents. It’s about love and happiness. So don’t
stress. Eat, drink and BE MERRY.
Take time or make time to enjoy the season, your family, your friends, food
and cocktails and the love and laughter around you. Christmas cards can be sent
late (or not at all) and it isn’t about the presents, it’s about the sentiment.
So be kind to you this Christmas season (and every Christmas season and beyond)
and if you’re in the Christmas mill, take a breath and remember to enjoy the
love and happiness you’re creating. That’s what it’s all about.

I'm not a very wild person by nature, but about two years ago we visited the Oregon Coast. I stood on the rocks near Devil's Churn with huge waves crashing up ten feet in front of me, spraying the water all over the rocks (and me). It was pretty awe-inspiring. And those waves were definitely wild and free.
