Synopsis:
When you've lost everything you love, how do you fight the darkness?
Ava left Istanbul with a new identity, new name, and new magic she could barely control. Laid low by Malachi's sacrifice, she searches for help from the fabled Irina. But will the secretive women of the Irin race welcome or shun her? Ava's origins are still a mystery, and her powers are darker than any they've encountered before.
The Irin world hangs in the balance. And as the children of angels battle their own demons, ancient rivalries among the Fallen threaten to wreak havoc on earth.
Thousand of miles away, a warrior wakes with no memory of his identity or his people. Stumbling through the twisted schemes of fallen angels, ravenous Grigori, and even his own leaders, he must find a way back to the one thing he remembers. A single voice calls him. Malachi has one mission.
"Come back to me."
THE SINGER is the second book in the Irin Chronicles, a contemporary fantasy series from Elizabeth Hunter, author of the Elemental Mysteries.
The story picks up where it left off in book one. Ava and Damien are on their way to Sari's-- Damien's mate, to help Ava control her Irina powers. Malachi on the other hand wakes up somewhere in Turkey, without his talesm and memory. With only a voice calling to him, he tried to find his way back to his Irin brothers and his true mate. Ava mourns for Malachi every single day and she can only find relief in her sleep, because in her dreams, Malachi returns to her. With the help of his Irin brothers, Malachi slowly regains his memories, reapplied some of his talesm and started to look for Ava. However, the reunion of the Irin couple won't be easy. Volund's son Brage, a powerful Grigori, is sent to kill Malachi and to capture Ava. Jaron also have a personal agenda that involves Ava. As Ava learn to control her powers, she makes new friends in the Irina community but the pain and feeling of loss never goes away. Also, Ava manifests some abilities that are unknown to the Irina community, she's definitely more than just an Irina.
After reading The Scribe a couple of months ago, I've been counting the days when the next book will come out because The Scribe just broke my heart. I grieved with Ava when the book ended. Although Ms. Hunter threw us bonus chapters on her website providing us the info that Malachi is in fact alive, I was still anticipating how everything will fall into place in The Singer. As always, Ms. Hunter delivered so well that I have no complaints except for that epilogue... come on! That's just cruel. It made me want to rob a bank so that I can bribe Ms. Hunter to write the next book ASAP. It was that good. I already fell in love with the characters and the story in The Scribe but in The Singer, it will make you fall harder. Plus, there are a lot of new bad-ass female characters in this book. Girl power!
The Singer is such an amazing read. The story line is gripping, unique and emotional. It has a perfect blend of romance, fantasy and action. If you haven't read any book from this series or any Elizabeth Hunter book yet, you better go and grab one now. Trust me, you are missing a lot.
PS. Seriously guys, I need that book 3 now!
Rating: 5 Fairy Wings!!!
