✼ CRESS (The Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer: A Midnight Fairy book review

Hi everyone, this is Midnight Fairy reporting! Cress is finally here and yours truly couldn't keep her hands off the book! Being a night fairy, the Lunar Chronicles hold a special place in my heart plus the fact that Rapunzel is my favorite fairytale made Cress as one of my highly anticipated novels of 2014. I thank the stars and all the heavenly bodies in the universe for not disappointing me. Cress is such a wonderful read!

***WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!***

After learning that she was used by Sybil and the Queen in killing Earthens, Cress started helping out Cinder Linh. She had been deflecting the satellite trackers to keep the Rampion from being seen by the Earthen and Lunar authorities. Cinder and the gang are preparing to oust Queen Levana from her throne thus preventing the Kai-Levana union and quite possibly saving the world from the Lunar Queen tyranny. Cinder contacted the being who helped them--- Cress. She and the team decided that Cress is too valuable to stay as a prisoner by Queen Levana and attempted to rescue her. However, when they arrived in Cress' satellite they encountered Sybil and her bodyguard Jacin. Hell broke lose, Thorne and Cress crashed to the Earth, Wolf was terribly wounded, and Scarlet was taken to Lunar as a prisoner. Not knowing whether her allies are dead or alive, Cinder continued their plan to stop the royal wedding.

The new character, Cress is pretty much like the original Rapunzel but with a Lunar twist. She lives alone in a satellite with little sister,(her 10 year old self) computer game as her company. She's freaking adorable!  Since she's never been to Earth, almost everything she sees on Earth fascinates her and she have a major crush on Captain Thorne.

I have always liked Thorne because of his funny character. He didn't disappoint in this book. His personality meshed well with Cress'.

“I’m sorry, it’s just…” She tried to stamp down the rush of emotion. “I think we’re in a desert.”
“Cactuses and tumbleweeds?”
“No. Just a lot of sand. It’s kind of orangish-gold, with hints of pink, and I can see tiny clouds of it floating above the ground, like … like smoke.”
“Piled up in lots of hills?”
“Yes, exactly! And it’s beautiful.”
Thorne snorted. “If this is how you feel about a desert, I can’t wait until you see your first real tree. Your mind will explode.”

Cinder, well, I have to admit her decisions weren't as sound as they should be thus leading them to dangerous situations, but, she's trying her best for the team and for all the Earthen and Lunar people who put their trust on her. I liked how Mayer showed Cinder's vulnerability towards the last part of the book.

Kai is finally on board! I forgive him for being slow in piecing the clues together because I'm sure running a country and being engaged to a horrible Lunar Queen is very stressful. Anyway, I'm glad he's finally part of the team.

I was disappointed with Wolf's behavior in this book. The guy could mope! He's become a liability than an asset  to the team. His vulnerability made him easily controlled. He attacked Cinder several times while he's under Sybil's control. However, i find him really sweet when he admitted his true feelings for Scarlet.

“It’s all right,” said Wolf. “You loved her. I would feel the same if someone wanted to erase Scarlet’s identity and give it to Levana’s army.”
Scarlet stiffened, heat rushing into her cheeks. He certainly wasn’t insinuating …

Speaking of Scarlet, OMG, poor gal! She's still hanging on, I hope the team can rescue her real soon! She's still in Lunar and she met the next heroine in the series--- Princess Winter!

My favorite android--- Iko is still perky and funny. She finally got a new body courtesy of Capt. Thorne.

“Oh, yuck,” said Iko, trying to cover the hole with both hands. “I hate when my wiring is showing.”

Jacin, Sybil's body guard was a minor character in this book whose loyalty is quite undecipherable. It looks like he's going to be Winter's partner in book 4 though.

Rating:

Overall, I give this book 4.5 fairy wings! I loved the characters and the plot. I have no issues with the multiple POV's because it was well executed. It's action packed and the drama is so good. (Watch out for Chapter 53!) I'm so glad I didn't saunter and read the book right away. I really wish that Winter is here (I mean the fourth book, not the season, lol).  I highly recommend this book to all YA fantasy and Sci-Fi readers.

That's all for now, I'll see you all next time.

Midnight Fairy, signing out!
