Elementary, My Dear Watson! The Astounding Adventure of the Ancient Dragon by Jose Prendes: A Rock Chick Fairy Book Review

WHO LOVES SHERLOCK MYSTERIES?

IF YOU DO.. THIS ONE'S DEFINITELY FOR YOU!!!

HOWEVER.. I THINK THIS TIME, YOU'LL APPRECIATE JOHN MORE THAN SHERLOCK!

^_________^

SYNOPSIS

When 12-year-old John Watson is sent to Candlewood boarding school, he makes quick friends with a boy named Sherlock Holmes, a universally disliked know-it-all and amateur sleuth. Before long, Sherlock embroils his new friend in a covert investigation of the mysterious disappearances blamed on a vengeful ghost. Dodging the meaty fists of the bully Moriarty, and aided by bumbling patrolman Lestrade, they uncover a deadly secret hidden deep underneath Candlewood. But does the duo have the brains–and the brawn–to crack this dangerous case?

A Rock Chick Fairy Book Review
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This turned out to be an excellent read!

At the start of this book, I thought it was just going to be adorable because it's John Watson and Sherlock Holmes in their younger-really younger years. However, as the pages went by, I realized that it isn't just adorable. It's also very engaging and exciting! Their adventure made me want to join them!

Aright, so we've established that this book is about John Watson and Sherlock Holmes. It depicts their life in a boarding school for kids. Even though they're fairly young in this book, it still has the mystery factor, the thrill, the adventure-seeking vibe just like other Sherlock Holmes books. What's different here is that this book actually focuses on John instead of Sherlock.

Together they face the mystery of vanishing kids in their school. It's pretty tough, mind you. Even though they are still kids, the danger that they exposed themselves to are not to be trifled with. It's amazing. I love just how the author wrote each scene. Carefully planned with a grand finale!

I was blown away by the emotions that his (John) young self can evoke from a reader like me. His love for his mom is very strong and his concern for other people is also outstanding. I like what runs in his mind because it's so very innocent, and yet sharp. Very sharp. Sherlock may be a genius, but John is also very smart in his own way. I also like how this book showed his loyalty to Sherlock from the start. That's something that is very crucial to his character. His loyalty. I love how he showed it here.

I guess the best thing about this book is that it's only the first!!

Hah! Their adventures shall continue!!! I'm actually looking forward to the next one! Yay!!!!

All in all this was a perfectly fast paced read!

5 fairy wings!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR (according to Goodreads)

Jose Prendes, international man of mystery, was found swaddled in a basket among the reeds at the mouth of the Amazon. Raised by local shamans, Jose learned the magic of language and decided to dedicate his skills to the betterment of all mankind. He trekked to America at the age of 12, on foot no less, and made his home in Florida for a few years. After discovering a cure for the common cold, and losing it among his comic book collection, Prendes decided to abandon Florida for sunny Los Angeles.

Upon arriving in the city of angels, he was made the leader of a small group of cinephiles who believed he was the second coming of Shakespeare. Wielding immense power, and a ridiculously awesome dvd collection, Prendes continues his struggle to save the world from the coming peanut butter and jelly apocalypse.
