I am very happy to present to you a book that I enjoyed immensely!!
SUSTAINED is indeed one special book!
A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.
When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.
Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.
Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.
Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.
And that — that, I know how to do.
(I thank the publishers from the bottom of my heart.)
I forgot how EMMA CHASE works! She works fast in giving you laugh out loud moments and she works harder at making you feel so attached to her characters.
First off, I think this is the first time that I actually fell in love with a big ass family from my fiction world. When you start reading this, don't confine yourself into thinking that this is just about the two main characters because trust me, it's not just about them. It's about everyone which lives they care about. I wouldn't say anything more about that, just know that you WILL LOVE THEM too. :)
Now for our characters, let me just say.. THEY COMPLETE ONE ANOTHER. Complete as in something was missing in their lives until they found each other.
Jake isn't a complete asshole. That's my first observation when I started this book. I didn't have any background of him because I haven't read the first book yet (FINE, SHOOT ME), so my first impression of him is that his thoughts are damn hilarious and that he's a very methodical man. He likes to put things in order and he likes SIMPLE. Little did he know that when this book starts, his life was about to become ANYTHING BUT SIMPLE!
Then enter Chelsea and her 6 beloved charges. They actually enter his life with a bang. It's not everyday that he's thrust into the lives of seven people (if we add Chelsea). Chelsea is a likable character. I thought at first that her character would be the gentle and well.. kind of meek one, but nope. She actually has the backbone to support each and every one of her charges. What I love best about that is that she doesn't balk. She just goes on with taking care of things. However, when things get to be tough... Let's just say that it's an awesome thing that Jake was suddenly present in their lives. :)
What y'all have to look forward to is how Jake would interact with each character. I swear he's frikkin adorable. Emma Chase made him out to be the perfect guy for those angels! Just perfect! He's amazing, funny and lovable! He has his issues, so watch out for how he'll handle those!
The plot is light hearted to me, despite the conflicts. I was able to end this book with a BIG ASS smile on my face. It's just like a movie. I'm telling you. It read like a funny, light hearted with a hint of drama kind of movie!
READ IT!
READI IT NOW!!
PERFECT 5!!!
As seen on Goodreads
By day, Emma Chase is a devoted wife and mother of two who resides in a small, rural town in New Jersey. By night she is a keyboard crusader, toiling away the hours to bring her colorful characters and their endless antics to life. She has a long standing love/hate relationship with caffeine.
Emma is an avid reader. Before her children were born she was known to consume whole books in a single day. Writing has also always been a passion and with the 2013 release of her debut romantic comedy, Tangled, the ability to now call herself an author is nothing less than a dream come true.
